An elision is the dropping of a bit or a letter from a word to allow for easier pronunciation. This occurs, for example, when a preposition ending with a vowel comes before a noun. An apostrophe is placed where the elided letter was. This frequently occurs with the preposition διά.

Examples[]

  • διὰ αὐτοῦ -> δι’ αὐτοῦ (through him)
